God’s eternal home for us

1 Corinthians‬ ‭2:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬ – That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”

When I read this verse it makes me super excited about the eternal home God has for us. Just imagine for a moment what God has in store for us. We are His children, adopted into His eternal family and co-heirs with Christ. With that standing, God is not going to hold back any good thing from us. His goal is to give us His best as His children. As the verse above says, “No eye has seen or ear heard or mind imagined”, how great it will be. Our eternal home will be absolutely amazing!

Prayer

Dear God, thank You that you have prepared an eternal home for those who love You. Thank You it will be a wonderful place that is too amazing to imagine. I look forward to spending eternity there with You. Amen.

Proverbs 21 gold

I am working my way the Book of Proverbs at the moment. Each day I read a chapter based on the date. Today was Proverbs 21.

Three verses jumped out at me today. They are great advice for life.

1. Listen to the poor and help

“Those who shut their ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of need. (V13)

2. Seek righteousness and love

Whoever pursues righteousness and unfailing love will find life, righteousness, and honor. (V21)

3. Think before you speak

Watch your tongue and keep your mouth shut, and you will stay out of trouble.” (V23)

These verses jumped out at me today. They are gold that will make a difference to our lives and the lives of others.

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for Proverbs 21. Help me to put its lessons into practice. Help me to listen to the poor, seek righteousness and think before I speak. Amen.

Power for all eternity

I heard this saying this morning, “Caesar is now just a salad dressing, but Jesus is still King.” I know it is just a silly saying. But it is funny how history plays out.

Caesar seemed to have all the power in the world. He had the power to sentence people to death. Jesus proved He had all the power of eternity and the power to raise people to life.

Caesar is now the name on an ancient ruler. Jesus is the King of all kings and the Lord of all lords. He sits on a throne in heaven waiting to return to earth to consummate history.

Real power is not found in dominating or controlling people, but in humble service and sacrifice. Jesus showed us this in His death on the cross. It is the greatest act of power in all of history combined.

Prayer

Thank You Jesus for Your great power. You came from heaven to live amongst us. You came to save us. You showed Your great power in humble service that sacrificed Your life for us. May we be always grateful. May we always understand that You have all power and authority, both for this life and all eternity. Amen

Another solitary place

Several weeks ago I wrote a post about my solitary place where I go to pray. It was up on a Peak overlooking our town. Today I thought I would share an image of one of my other solitary places I have – on my bike.

As I have shared before, I have been cycling for more that 35 years. I really enjoy getting out in God’s creation to just ride. It is partly about fitness, partly about getting alone time and partly about stopping to spend time with God in prayer.

Today I just rode slowly around town on my single speed bike. I checked out the sport at the local park, had a look down the main street to see what was going on and paused at our local lake to sit and pray. This is the picture above.

For me I find cycling like this very relaxing. I can just roll my legs over slowly (10-20kph) and enjoy the scenery. Yes a level of fitness is involved, but as I get older it is more about stopping and taking time out to have a mental break too.

As someone who has worked as a Pastor, Chaplain and Companion Carer, I talk to a lot of people. I also listen a lot too. And being quite introverted, I find I need to build in to my schedule some solitary places and hobbies to recharge my mental energy.

How about you? Have you got any special places you go to? Or have you got hobbies that help you recharge your energy? My two places are walking up a Peak and riding around in God’s creation. Both things keep me mentally, spiritually and emotionally fit.

Be blessed today,
Dave

Do not miss Jesus

John 5:39-40 says, “These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life.”

Jesus said these words to the religious teachers of His day. They claimed to know all about faith and the Scriptures, but did not recognise Jesus as the Messiah that they were waiting for.

They had knowledge of the Scriptures, but missed the main person – Jesus.

Over the years I have known some very religious people who have studied the Bible, but they missed Jesus too.

So what are some keys we have to understand about Jesus?

  1. He is eternal (John 1:1-3)
  2. He is the Son of God (Luke 1:35)
  3. He is the Messiah (John 4:25-26)
  4. He died on the cross to pay the price for our sin (Romans 3:23-24)
  5. He was raised back to life and is now seated at the right hand of the Father in heaven (Romans 8:34)
  6. He is coming back for those who trust in Him as their Lord and Saviour (Hebrews 9:28)
  7. He is the only way to salvation (John 14:6)

These are seven things that are key about Jesus. It is just so important to understand who Jesus is and what He has done.

Two things you can do right now is trust Jesus for your salvation and find peace with God. You can do this by visiting this page.

Then you can download our free discipleship booklet to help you understand more about Christ and His will for your life. You can find our free booklet here.

It is my hope and prayer that you will do these two things and you will go on to follow Jesus all the days of your life.

God Bless,
Dave
