1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT – Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
The Apostle Paul was not teaching that we should thank God for everything that happens to us, but that we should be thankful in every circumstance. There is a subtle but profound difference. Evil things happen, but they do not come from God, so we should not thank him for it. However, when evil things happen to us, we can still be thankful for God’s presence (Matthew 28:20) and for the good that he will accomplish through the situations we find ourselves in (Romans 8:28).
Prayer
Dear God, right now I thank You for where I am today. I thank You for the good things. I also thank You that You are with me and working things out for long term good. Amen.
