What could I do more of…?

What could you do more of?

I would like more the Holy Spirit in my life. I would like to be empowered to live like Jesus and display more of the fruit of the Spirit in the world around me.

But in truth it is not about me getting more of the Holy Spirit, it is about the Holy Spirit getting more of me!

Paul Little in his book “Know What You Believe” said,“To be filled with the Spirit means we allow Him to occupy, guide, and control every area of our lives. His power can then work through us, making us effectively fruitful for God and flooding our hearts with His joy” (p. 78).

When we come to accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour we become born again by the Holy Spirit. He then takes up residence in us to empower us and make us more like Christ. So as Christians we all have the same Holy Spirit, in the same measure, the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead (Romans 8:9-11).

As Paul Little says in his book, it is about allowing the Holy Spirit free reign in our lives. It is allowing Him to have all of us in complete surrender. Then He can live in and through us.

If I am honest, this sounds really scary and really exciting at the same time! But what a journey it would be if we surrendered fully to the Holy Spirit. Imagine the difference we could make in this world.

Life without music?

What would your life be like without music?

I could not imagine what life would be life with music. It would certainly be different.

I love all types of music and I love singing along to my favourite songs, especially in the car where no one else can hear me! Although my wife assures me I have a good singing voice, I am not a confident singer.

Music is also tied in to worship for me. Some of my favourite songs are worship songs. I love to sing and worship God alone, but I also love worshipping with others in church.

So I think my life would be very different without music, especially worship music.

Curious about?

What are you curious about?

This is a good question today. What am I curious about? Lately I have been curious about ageing well in the next phase of life.

I have noticed as I get older my body and mind need more rest between bigger efforts. I have found in the gym, I need more days to recover between workouts. The same goes big efforts mentally.

I built a website for our church in the last few weeks. Years ago when I worked as a webmaster I would build huge websites and intranets and it would not take much out of me, but these days it requires more rest afterwards.

So I am curious about work, rest, recovery and ageing well and how that all works in the next phase of life.

Go and watch an AFL game

If you won two free plane tickets, where would you go?

I think I would go and watch an AFL game or two in Melbourne with my wife. She has family over there so we could visit the too.

Favourite games

Triple Town

What’s your favorite game (card, board, video, etc.)? Why?

Today’s WordPress question is a good one. What are my favourite games? I am going to share about my favourite one or two of each of the card, board and video games.

  1. Card game – I really like playing Uno with my family. It is a nice simple game that is easy and fun. I also used to play it with the kids at school when I worked as a Chaplain. It was a good way to play a game and talk.
  2. Board Game – my favourite board game is Monopoly or Scrabble. It is a tie for them both. It just depends what sort of mood I am in. But I have one rule – a time limit. I am not one of those people who has to see everyone go bankrupt to have a winner. I am happy to see who has the most money or points after an hour or so.
  3. Video game – when my kids were little we got a PS2. We would play Ratchet and Clank and Grand Turismo for hours. I love the rally races and driving my trusty Subaru Impresser was so much fun. The kids loved Ratchet and Clank and made it through a few times, but I never got that far.
  4. iPad game – my favourite iPad game is Triple Town. It is a game with bears, trees and houses, you join three things together and it upgrades you to the next level. I play a quick game most games to chill out. I will put a picture above.

That is about it for me. These are my favourites, but I must admit I do not play them very often these days.
