Mind Pump fitness channel

I have been weight training regularly for 38 years. I just love the way it makes me feel and how it improves my overall health. I can still do many of the things a younger person can do because of it.

One channel I watch regularly is Mind Pump Clips on YouTube. They have lots of good advice for people starting out in the gym and often answer peoples questions that call in.

The video above talks about doing a three day a week full body workout and why they are so good for you compared to other split style of training programs.

I trained a split routine for probably 35 of my 38 years training. I used to do a shoulders, back and chest workout two days a week and arms and legs on another two days.

After listening to Mind Pump I changed back to full body a few years ago. I find as I get older it helps me to recover better and I enjoy my workouts more with a full day off weights in between workouts.

It also gives me better flexibility in my training. If I have to travel part of the week, I can just do two sessions in my gym at home and do a rings workout or walk while I am away.

If you are interested in weight training, Mind Pump is a great place to start looking. They have all trained for many years, competed in competitions and have training thousands of clients in the gym.

Four things to remember when we sin

As Christians we all sin. No matter how hard we try to live right, we all stumble at times. We are all human and we live in a fallen world that is harassed by sin.

However there are four things that help me when I sin. I have shared these in my sermons over the last few years and I thought I would share them here.

  1. God looked for man when he sinned in the Garden of Eden – Genesis 3:8 tells us God called out to man to find him. Even after the first sin, God pursued Adam.
  2. Jesus died for our sins – Romans 5:8 says that Jesus died for us while we were still sinners. He paid the price for our sin.
  3. God gave us a way to get right with Him – 1 John 1:9 tells us that God provided confession as a way to get right with Him when we fall short.
  4. We have an Advocate in heaven – 1 John 2:1 reminds us that when we sin Jesus pleads our case before the Father in Heaven.

These things help me to remember that God is on my side. He knows I will fall short at times and He has provided ways for us to be right with Him.

These four things give me comfort knowing that when I sin, forgiveness and restoration is just a prayer of confession away.

God Bless,

Dave

Brief but powerful letters

I really like this insight from Our Daily Bread today…

The apostle John’s letters (1, 2, and 3 John) are considered brief—particularly in comparison to Paul’s lengthy epistles and other letters, such as Romans and 1 Corinthians. However, even 3 John—the shortest of the biblical letters—would’ve been considered long by ancient standards. Scholar Randy Richards wrote: “The average letter in the first century was 87 words.” Meanwhile 3 John has 219 words in the Greek and is the shortest New Testament letter. First John—at 2,517 words—is still quite brief yet much longer than the typical first-century letter. That common brevity in ancient letters was due to several factors including the cost of hiring a secretary, the cost of papyrus and ink (which had to be handmade), and the difficulty in getting letters to their destinations.

Wait on the Lord

Matthew 5:4 TPT – “What delight comes to you when you wait upon the Lord! For you will find what you long for.”

In our fast paced world we can forget to have time in silence to wait upon the Lord. We all get too busy at times and time alone with God gets squeezed out. But when we take that time our lives are so much better. When we sit alone with God and wait on Him, we find our strength is renewed, the answers we are wanting come and we experience God’s peace and presence in a deeper way. How about you? How is your time alone with God going at the moment?

Prayer

Dear God, please help me to spend time alone with You. I want to sit in Your presence and just be with You. Please give me the desire to do this and help me to slow down to have this time. I thank You that the Bible says that we will find what we long for when we take this time. I ask in Jesus’ name, amen.

A lesson learned later

Share a lesson you wish you had learned earlier in life.

I wish I listened earlier to people who told me about Jesus.

I can remember Christian friends in primary school telling me about Jesus and I did not listen. I also had people talk to me in my teenage years and I made fun of them. Thankfully I listened to some friends in my early twenties!

Like the image above of Jesus calming the storm on the lake, He could have calmed some of the storms in my life. Some may have even been prevented if I followed Him.

Don’t leave it too long, trust Jesus today. Turn to Him and follow Him. Like my friend said to me in my early twenties, “If you are not walking with Jesus, you are missing out on how good life can be”.
