Online church

Over the last few year I have been talking to more and more people who are not physically or mentally able to attend church in person.

During these conversations I find out that they love God, read their Bible and pray every day, have attended church in the past, but are just not able to at the moment.

When talking to them I usually talk about how many churches are now online after covid. Of all the negatives of the shutdowns, this is one is a positive. More churches are now online.

During covid my wife and I watched a weekly service from a church in Perth. We chatted with the live chat and made connections with people. When the lockdown finished, we went to visit to say thanks. We found the online connections were there in person.

Now I encourage the people who go online and look on YouTube. You can usually find an online church service pretty quickly. Although you might have to watch a few services until you find the right one for you.

For me personally I really like online church. I like that I can worship God, pray with others, hear the Bible preached and be a part of an online community. One church that does it really well is Life.Church, the creators of the Bible app.

Each week they do an online church service especially for those who cannot attend. They do all the usual things that happen in church like prayer, worship and have a sermon. They also have ways of connecting in small groups online.

We CAN trust God

As believers in Christ we can trust God to do all He says He will do in the Bible. As it says in Numbers 23:19…

“God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?”

What God has said in the Bible will happen. There were over 300 Old Testament prophecies fulfilled in Christ. So we know He is true to His word.

It is said there are over 5000 promises of help in the Bible for us today. Many millions of people hold on to the promises of God each day and He upholds them.

Because of God’s past actions, His present help and His unchanging nature, we can trust Him for the future.

When Jesus said He is going to prepare a place for us and coming back for His own in John 14:1-3, it is a promise we can hold on to. He is also bringing His rewards with Him for all we have done (Revelation 22:12).

We can trust that all will come to pass as it says in the book of Revelation. One of the great promises from Revelations is found in Revelation 21:1-4…

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s home is now among His people! He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.”

Jesus IS coming back with His rewards. There WILL be a new heaven and new earth. God WILL wipe away every tear from our eyes and there WILL be no more sorrow and pain. And best of all, God’s home WILL be among His people.

In awe of Jesus

I was just reading and listening to John 13. This is where Jesus washes the disciples feet.

I am in awe of Jesus even more. Not only did He humbly wash the disciples feet, but I was reminded that He washed the feet of the betrayer Judas Iscariot!

In verse 2 we see that “The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus.”

In verse 4-5 “Jesus got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.”

Then in verse 27… “As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. So Jesus told him, “What you are about to do, do quickly.”

Reading about Jesus washing His disciples feet gives me a clear picture of being a humble servant. It inspires me to do the same.

Jesus served Judas knowing He would betray Him unto death. Knowing that Jesus sent His betrayer away with clean feet leaves me in awe.

Our natural thought is if we know someone was going to betray us is to keep our distance, to stay away from them or not talk to them. But Jesus washed Judas’ feet!

This is why I love Jesus. This is why I serve Jesus. This is why I live for Jesus. I am in total and complete awe of Him and how He showed us to live.

Favourite place in Perth

What is your favorite place to go in your city?

I live in a smallish country town about 300 kilometres from Perth. Perth is the capital city of Western Australia and my favourite place to go in Perth is Kings Park.

The great thing about it is that I worked opposite Kings Park for 11 years and every lunch time I would go on a prayer walk. It became a real place of relaxing and spending time with God for me.

Kings Park is a great place for families too. There are so many walking trails, picnic spots and playgrounds for kids. When we lived in Perth we would often go as a family and have a great time.

These days I might only go once a year to Kings Park when I visit Perth. I usually spend some time there when I have some sort of conference or training in Perth. I grab an iced coffee at the kiosk and sit and just enjoy the view.
